Summer farmers markets and the joy of sharing local flowers

Meeting customers face to face and sharing our love of local flowers

Selling local flowers in person is different from any other kind of selling. There is no guessing what people think. We hear it right away.

People slow down, look at the display, ask a question or two. They're usually drawn to the Sunflowers, large buckets of golden yellow, often accompanied by bees.

Sometimes they linger long enough to ask where we grow our flowers, and how many flowers we grow.Often they'll talk about their garden; both struggles and joys.

They glance at our chalkboard, scanning prices and pause as they decide what fits both budget and mood. Eventually, they select a small bunch of Dahlias, a large bunch of bulky Sunflowers, or occasionally ask us to make them a mixed bouquet with a variety of flowers.

People will sometimes reminisce; remember a flower from their past or childhood. They remember their grandmother's Snapdragons, or their own attempt to grow Sunflowers one year.

One of our favourite experiences at the farmers market is when a customers comes back.There is a warmth that comes from being remembered. When someone stops by and says, “I was hoping you would be here,” it can make the early setup and the long day feel completely worth it.
