May at Second Spring Farm was full. Our days were filled with planting, transplanting,building more beds, building irrigation systems, and as always, caring for our cows and chickens. Second Spring Farm has expanded again .This past May we added 3 steers to our farm. These cows will be part of our life for the next year. Our farm is full of beautiful pasture and it's our intent to raise them on grass only. We are trying an intense,rotational grazing system that moves them frequently. Keeping the cows from eating the grass down too far will allow the pasture to grow and regenerate sooner. This in turn will allow us to return the cows back to that section of

Life on the farm starts to pick up in Februrary. Existing beds are tidied, new beds are made, Trellises and plant supports are organized.This growing season will include Pansies, Sweet peas, Larkspur, Snapdragons, Strawflowers, Dahlias, Zinnias, Sunflowers assorted fillers, greens and trial flowers. We're thrilled and a little smitten with these 10 girls! We have welcomed a variety of heritage breed hens to our farm that will begin producing eggs this summer. We requested a mix of docile chicks that will grow into productive layers over the course of a few months. We are fascinated by their uniquness and their interesting personalities that are starting to come through. These hens will forage on pasture following our cows in a rotation to maximize soil and animal health
